How Nicola Fisher Transformed Her Career with Trichology
“As soon as I opened the TrichoCare Level 4 Certificate in Trichology course, I knew I was in the right place.” So says Nicola Fisher, the latest international student to successfully complete TrichoCare Education’s industry-recognised course.
From Hairdresser to Aspiring Trichologist
Nicola lives and works in the Nelson Tasman region of New Zealand’s spectacular South Island. She has been a hairdresser for over 20 years, but her passion from very early in her career was understanding hair and scalp problems – what they are, why they happen, and how they can be treated in a healthy, holistic way. Her expertise is further enhanced by her completion of the Level 4 Certificate in Trichology.
She first trained with a leading product manufacturer, but things became more personal when Nicola faced her own health challenges.
“During my first pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and later discovered I had high cholesterol – both potential precursors to hair loss,” she recalls. Her hair thinned, broke, and continued to worsen after her second pregnancy, no matter what she tried. “Despite two decades of experience, and a career focused on hair and scalp analysis, I couldn’t fix my own hair.”
A Personal Journey to Trichology
Determined to find answers, Nicola threw herself into further study. “First I studied hair and scalp science, then continued my training to become a certified trichologist, finally understanding hair on a systemic level.”
It took years for her own hair to recover, but the experience inspired her to help others who were struggling with the same issues.
Working with a chemist, she even developed her own brand of plant-based, science-backed products: HaloHaircare
Why TrichoCare’s Level 4 Certificate?
Nicola wanted to expand her expertise further, so she researched trichology courses online. That’s when she discovered TrichoCare Education’s Level 4 Certificate in Trichology.
“It looked exactly what I was searching for – the content was right, I could study remotely, and the cost was similar to other courses.”
Nicola found studying with TrichoCare a rewarding experience:
“Even though it could be challenging at times, I loved every minute. The depth of knowledge the course offers is exceptional, and it’s truly reshaped the way I approach hair and scalp conditions. I now understand how underlying chemical and hormonal imbalances can present through the scalp and hair follicles.”
She also enjoyed the interactive structure of the course:
“It’s engaging, with illustrations, quizzes, assignments, and plenty of suggestions for further reading and study.”
And she’s quick to highlight the support she received:
“Keith [Barker-Jones, Course Director] was absolutely amazing – always happy to help and quick to respond to any queries.”
Looking Ahead
Today, Nicola balances running her HaloHaircare business with her growing trichology consulting practice, while still offering occasional salon services for her long-standing clients. But she’s not stopping there.
She has already enrolled in a diploma in nutrition to broaden her understanding of the holistic nature of hair health:
“I’m especially interested in learning more about hair care for peri-menopausal clients. It’s a very real problem, and there’s very little help and guidance available.”
Advice for Future Trichology Students
Nicola is clear about the benefits of her studies with TrichoCare:
“TrichoCare’s Level 4 Certificate is an incredibly well-developed course that dives deep into the internal functions of the body and how they’re reflected through the hair and scalp.
If you’re committed to developing your career in trichology – whether you’re a hairdresser, barber, or healthcare professional – you shouldn’t think twice about enrolling in this Level 4 Certificate in Trichology online course.”
