“This was just what I was looking for. It was especially interesting for me that the qualification would be recognised internationally. It was easy to sign up, and as soon as I was on board the Course Director Keith Barker-Jones contacted me and we drew up a plan of study that was just right for me.”
It doesn’t take long to discover Anneliese’s favourite word. She uses it often in any conversation you have with her. That word is ‘Why?’ “I’ve always wanted to know the whys behind the whats,” she says, “and that’s why (!) I’ve signed up for TrichoCare Education’s Level 4 Certificate Course.”
Anneliese has 18 years’ experience (so far) in the industry. She trained with Toni and Guy in Maidstone, Kent, then worked for them in London. After travelling around the world, and working in Spain, she became an educator for L’Oréal. Now, with her business partner Harriet Stokes, she runs her own colour education company ‘Humankind Hair’, works part-time at Tribe salon in London and also freelances. You can find her prominent on Instagram.
So let’s hear more about the ‘Why?’ word. “I’ve always been a questioner”, she says, “for instance, wanting to learn more about what actually happens when colour and hair interact and why. Even though I teach colour techniques, I knew there was more to learn about the science that makes it all happen. The problem was finding where and how.”
The solution came when Anneliese went on a textured hair course, and heard one of the guest speakers, Tatlyn Grant, who had studied trichology with TrichoCare. Tatlyn recommended TrichoCare to her and she got in touch to learn more.
“I spoke to Jackie Passey at TrichoCare”, Anneliese recalls, “and realised this was just what I was looking for. It was especially interesting for me that the qualification would be recognised internationally. It was easy to sign up, and as soon as I was on board the Course Director Keith Barker-Jones contacted me and we drew up a plan of study that was just right for me.”
Anneliese also has a very personal reason for studying trichology: “My mother suffers from alopecia, which went undiagnosed for years. I know the impact that has had on her, and I felt powerless as I couldn’t help her. Studying trichology means I’ll be able to help people just like my mother in the future.”
Anneliese’s experience on the Course has been very positive: “I’m learning lots and absolutely loving it. I’ve become a science geek, and I’m even doing additional reading in the bath!”
And as someone who has just recently joined the Course, she also has some sound words of advice for anyone thinking about following in her footsteps: “You certainly have to be interested in the subject and be able to commit the time to focus on studying. I think it’s good to have some experience in the industry as well, and developed your own areas of interest.”
So for anyone, like Anneliese, who is curious about the ‘whys’ behind the science of hair, TrichoCare Education’s Level 4 Certificate Course looks like the perfect answer.
