“I’d been wanting to study trichology for years.” Linda Ward tells us, “Because I’ve always been interested in the science of hair. But I never quite found the time or the opportunity.” Now Linda’s finally fulfilled her ambition and qualified as a trichologist after successfully completing TrichoCare Education’s regulated Level 4 Certificate course. In fact, many learners consider the trichology course Level 4 a significant milestone in their careers.

Linda’s been in the hairdressing business since she was a teenager doing a summer temp job: “It’s my lifetime career and an absolute joy,” she says. That career has taken her from the west coast of Ireland to the United States and back again. Today she has her own salon, BelleHair, in the little town of Ballyshannon in Donegal. COVID was a challenge and an opportunity for many people in hair and beauty, and Linda was no exception. She downsized her salon, so she now works alone. Just as significantly, she had the time to research the best way to put her old trichology ambitions into action. Why did you choose to study with TricoCare?

“I looked at several course options and TrichoCare Education’s stood out as the best fit for me. I could study online and didn’t have to travel anywhere. Linda was confident that her existing experience and knowledge would enable her to jump straight into the Level 4 course.” I decided ‘I can do this.’” In essence, the trichology course Level 4 allowed her to make the leap with confidence.

And so it’s proved – though there have been some hiccups along the way. “The course has been great – easy to follow and user-friendly. But it’s certainly been a challenge going back to studying again, even though I’ve done lots of colour courses all my career. For instance, I’ve had to learn to use IT!”

A flexible approach

Other parts of Linda’s life did intervene during her studies, especially while working full-time. “But TrichoCare’s Student Care team have been very supportive and understanding. And they let me overrun the course duration a little bit when there was too much going on at home, which was very helpful.”

We wondered what, in particular, Linda has taken away from the course now that she’s finished. “I think above all, it’s confidence. Confidence to sit down with clients, ask the right questions, and listen carefully. And apply my knowledge to devise a hypothesis as to what the condition is that the client is presenting. Then go on to devise a course of action that can give them comfort and reassurance. Before, I could often see a client had a problem, but I couldn’t really help.” It is clear that a trichology course Level 4 can deliver invaluable practical knowledge and new confidence.

Some of our successful learners know exactly how they’re going to use their trichology qualification. Others are yet to make up their minds. Just for now, Linda falls into the latter category. “I’m now thinking about how to put into practice all the new knowledge I’ve gained, especially about the underlying science to hair and scalp conditions. In any case, I’ll certainly be able to talk to my existing hair clients about hair loss and other concerns with greater insight – for example, the impact of stress, nutrition and genetic influences.”

And what advice does she have for anyone thinking of following her into studying trichology with TrichoCare Education? “It’s challenging going back to being a student, of course, but the new knowledge you gain and the personal satisfaction you get from finishing successfully make it all worthwhile
