How Radina Took Her Level 4 Certificate in Trichology to Bulgaria

It’s not often we discover that one of our learners has invented a brand new word. In fact, it’s a first
for us. So we were intrigued to find out more: who’s the inventor and why the invention? Our
creative word maker is salon owner Radina Krasteva, who’s recently successfully completed our
regulated Level 4 Certificate in Trichology.

Radina runs Aadhira, a salon and hair and beauty products business located in central Sofia, the
capital of Bulgaria. So what’s the new word? “It’s kosology”. Radina tells us. “Kosology is a discipline
that unites trichology, cosmetology and a holistic approach to hair health.” And how did Radina
come up with the word ‘kosology’? “It’s actually very simple: the kos comes from ‘kоса’ which in
Bulgarian means ‘hair’ and the ‘ology’ part means, as usual, ‘the study of.’”

Meet Radina and Aadhira

Before we look at why Radina invented the word kosology, let’s learn a bit more about her and her
business. Radina is not only an experienced hairdresser, she has her own hair and beauty product
brand, offers a wide range of diagnostic and specialised treatments for hair and scalp conditions, and
has her own hair care education academy. “I’m passionate about hair and I and my team are
dedicated to discovering the underlying cause of each problem our clients present to us.”

Why Bulgaria needed kosology

Which brings us to kosology. “There’s a challenge to offering hair and scalp treatments in Bulgaria.
Only medical practitioners are allowed to offer trichology-type services. But I’m a fighter, and I
decided I’d find a new way to describe what I do. So kosology was born. It’s a mix of all the services
we offer our lovely clients – a blend of hair and scalp analysis, treatments and an overall
commitment to wellbeing. And it reflects our holistic approach to healthy hair.”

Studying trichology remotely from Sofia

So how did Radina decide to study with TrichoCare? “Well, I’ve done a lot of research into hair care
in the past, and taken some courses, but I’m mostly self-taught. So, with the launch of kosology, I
decided this was the time I should study trichology in more depth and in a more structured way.”
Radina went online, did more research and found TrichoCare. “I sent them a message, they came
back to me, confirmed I could study remotely, and so I signed up for the Introduction to Trichology
course. And as soon as I had completed that, I moved on to the Level 4 Certificate. which because it’s
ITEC accredited, is recognised internationally.”

So how did Radina find studying with TrichoCare? “I really enjoyed it. I knew a lot of the content, but
it was good to have it organised in a clear way. I lived in England for 2 years, so my English is pretty
good but I did struggle with some of the scientific terms. But the support I had from the TrichoCare
team was very helpful and reassuring.”

Radina’s advice to other hair professionals

She also has a reassuring message for other hair professionals considering studying trichology with
TrichoCare Education. “It’s an investment in your future. You’re improving yourself and your service
to clients. Some of the content will be challenging, but be patient, don’t give up – it’s worth it in the
end!”

True to her feisty personality, Radina organised the first ever hair convention in Bulgaria this year. It
was controversial, as there’s still resistance there among health professionals to new providers of
hair and scalp services. But now she’s armed with her recent qualification, we’re sure she’ll continue
to fight for trichology, or we should say kosology, in her home country in the coming years.
