Teresa Cross: A Lifetime in Hairdressing, Now a Certified Trichologist
Teresa Cross has recently completed TrichoCare Education’s regulated Level 4 Certificate. This is a Level 4 trichology certificate success story. Here’s her story in her own words.
“My 45 year career in hairdressing has always been exceptionally rewarding, whether competing in major competitions, hair shows or bridal hair exhibitions. But teaching has been my passion, along with running a full column of clients. Whilst living in The Middle East for ten years I ran two local salons, Raz and Diva, and then my own salon La Vita Hair Design when I returned to the UK.
My interest in ladies’ trichology began when a complete stranger confided in me about her hair own hair loss issues. So began my trichology journey – and that stranger is now a friend for life.
My passion
Learning has been a passion throughout my hairdressing career, having taken numerous courses in teaching, cutting, colouring and the latest trends. However, trichology was a completely different challenge, especially as my IT skills were limited, having never owned a lap top!
While I was studying the course, I enjoyed the integral, colourful illustrations and quizzes in the course material. I did find some of the different modules, assignments and exams really intense and at times felt I’d never be able to remember the content. Then my 16 year old junior in the salon introduced me to the Quizlet app. She taught me to input course related questions and answers to create my own multiple choice trichology tests. This really helped me, and it’s something I thoroughly recommend to anyone who struggles with studying a lot of theory-based content.
Course support
Many thanks to Course Director, Keith Barker-Jones, for being so supportive and patient when I had my own medical issues and for guiding me through the challenges that arose. The introduction to the student WhatsApp group was also invaluable, as it provided a platform to discuss and share hair loss information. Some of the group have become friends and I will continue to keep in touch with them.
For anyone considering undertaking the trichology journey, my advice would be to take everything one step at a time, ask questions if you don’t understand and find a learning method that suits you.
Finally, qualifying as a trichologist has been the most rewarding achievement of my career. My salon has a private, safe space where I carry out consultations, advising new and existing clients about their hair loss with the benefit of my newly gained knowledge and accreditation.”
