Case Study: Katie Philips – Northampton

Katie Philips certainly has a ‘been there, done that’ cv. It now includes an inspiring Trichology career journey. She started as a hairdressing apprentice and got her City and Guilds. Katie worked in several salons, then on a cruise ship, and later taught at a number of FE colleges for many years. Her trichology career journey is a testament to her dedication and passion.

How did you hear about TrichoCare Education?

Studying trichology to gain CPD hours was originally the suggestion of a colleague at one of the colleges she taught at. This suggestion set her on a remarkable journey in the Trichology career. It transformed her professional life.

Now Katie has her own trichology consultancy, marking significant progress in her journey towards establishing a successful Trichology career.

“I’d always been interested in conditions and diseases of the hair, and in hair loss. So studying trichology was an obvious choice for me. And choosing TrichoCare’s course was a natural choice as well because, unlike other courses I researched, it was both affordable and accessible.”

“The course was enjoyable as well as very informative. A group of us studied together and it was helpful to talk over the issues raised in lectures. We shared ideas with other hairdressers.”

“After I finished the course, I was inspired to change direction in my career. I set up my own business. The course gave me the knowledge and skills to advise clients with confidence on their hair problems. I could also charge them for the services I offered. It gave me a qualification so that clients could have confidence in the advice I gave them.”

Combining passions

“I’ve been able to channel my two passions into my business – both trichology and wedding hair. There’s nothing more satisfying than doing the right thing for your clients. Whether it’s helping to make them look wonderful on their wedding day, or identifying a hair condition and giving them the best advice about what to do on their own trichology career journey.”

Katie Philips was one of the first to study TrichoCare’s full trichology course. The course is now accredited as the ITEC Level 4 Certificate in Trichology. The Course enables students to gain the practical and theoretical skills to provide effective hair and scalp advice and services. It can be studied at selected FE colleges or through distance learning. It includes lectures, guided learning sessions, clinical observation, and written assessment and examination.

Study for the Certificate includes detailed examination of the science of hair and scalp conditions. It also covers an in-depth study of the chemicals used in hair treatments and why they can cause concern. It addresses occupational hazards and advises clients on a healthy lifestyle. When they’ve completed the Course, students are registered as a Trichologist with TrichoCare Education. They can then establish their own trichology practice and start their own Trichology career journey.
