Hayley Channon Wins VTCT Excellence Student of the Year Award
We were absolutely delighted when TrichoCare Education level 4 student Hayley Channon was awarded the VTCT Excellence Awards Student of the Year in July. It was a wonderful recognition of her exceptional hard work during the Certificate course (92% in her chemistry exam!), and testament to her super commitment and talent unlocking new career opportunities.
Exceptional Hard Work and Commitment Recognized
Now the stardust has settled a little, and Hayley’s completed the VTCT course successfully, we were keen to find out what she was going to do next. Hayley is an experienced hairdresser and educator and was teaching hairdressing at Canterbury College in Kent (East Kent Colleges). While she was still studying for the Level 4 Certificate, she told us she was keen to put her new trichology skills into action as soon as she qualified. So is that what’s she now doing?
New Career Opportunities at East Kent Colleges
Not quite. “Almost as soon as I’d qualified in trichology I was offered a new job at East Kent Colleges, which was very exciting and gave me a whole new set of challenges,” Hayley tells us. “I’m now going to be responsible for matching apprentices and employers across all six East Kent campuses, including Canterbury, and across 30 plus apprenticeships too.”
Building Confidence and Skills Through Trichology
It’s a big step up for Hayley. “It’s a little bit daunting but it’s a great opportunity too. Winning the Student of the Year award gave me a big confidence boost and showed me I can achieve even more than I was already doing. And I’ll be using all the experience I’ve gained in hairdressing to enable many more apprenticeship opportunities across many skills sectors. Which is so exciting for me as a teaching professional.”
So what about her new trichology qualification? “I loved studying trichology and I’ll still be using my knowledge in helping my hairdressing apprentices. OK, I may be putting my trichology consultancy ambitions on hold for the moment. But I’ve no doubt at all that studying the course was a real positive for me. I took on the challenge, stepped out of my comfort zone, and was successful. What’s not to like!”
So now we know. Studying at TrichoCare Education doesn’t just give you a new qualification and a new set of skills, it builds your confidence and shows you just what you’re capable of achieving. Who knows where it could take you and what opportunities might come your way? We wish Hayley all the best in her new role. YOu can join The Association of Registered Trichologists too.
